Please join us for RIAMFT'S Spring Seminar on Friday May 19, 2023.

This seminar will provide participants with an overview of three popular approaches

to couples therapy, EFT, IFS and RLT. Participants will learn about the effectiveness of each

model as well as success and challenges of each approach. Case illustrations will be utilized to

support the learning. The seminar with finish off with a panel discussion that will explore how

each model may approach the same clinical presentation as well as how the various models may

be integrated into overall couples’ treatment.

Program:

9-9:10 Registration and Welcome

9:10-10:25 EFT

10:25-10:35 Break

10:35-11:50 IFS

11:50-12:30 Lunch on site

12:30-1:45 RLT

1:45-1:55 Break

1:55-3:25 Panel Discussion

3:25-3:45 Wrap up and Evaluations

Objectives:

1. Participants will be able to describe the 3 stages of EFT.

2. Participants will be able to identify ways to integrate the EFT model into their clinical

practice.

 3.  Participants will become familiar with ways that couple’s parts are trying to protect

them from emotional pain and psychological pain.

4. Participants will be able to identify ways to Integrate the IFS model into your clinical

practice for treatment with couples.

 5. Participants will become familiar with the 2 phases of treatment: containment and

transformation.

6. Participants will be able to identify ways to integrate the RLT model into clinical

practice for treatment with couples.

Our guest panel of speakers for the day will include:

Mona Barbera, Ph.D is a psychologist with over 35 years experience, specializing in couples

therapy, couples workshops, and training psychotherapists. She has been quoted in Better Homes

and Gardens, Cosmopolitan, and Mens Fitness and has appeared on Fox25 news in, NBC in New

York, News8 in Washington, D.C., Peachtree TV in Atlanta, and KARE11 in Minneapolis.  Her

book for couples, “Bring Yourself to Love: How Couples Can Turn Disconnection into

Intimacy” is the winner of the prestigious 2009 Benjamin Franklin Award in psychology/self-

help, the Bronze medalist in the 2008 IPPY awards in Relationships and Sexuality, and a finalist

in the 2009 Eric Hoffer Awards.

Mona has written for the academic journals “The Journal of Imago Relationship Therapy” and

“The Journal of Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy,” and she has a chapter in “Imago

Relationship Therapy: Perspectives on Theory,” by Luquet, Hannah and Hunt. She is past chair

of the program committee and past board member of the New England Society for the Study and

Treatment of Trauma and Dissociative Disorders. She is an Assistant Trainer for Internal Family

Systems, a system of psychotherapy developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz. She lives in Rhode

Island with her husband. She has private practices in Providence, RI and Middletown, RI.

Kendra DiMino LICSW-- In private practice since 2009 and Certified in Relational

Life Therapy since 2012, Kendra DiMino provides therapy for couples and individual adults out

of her office in Cranston, RI. She is a Certified Integrative Mental Health Professional, who is

passionate about teaching clients a holistic perspective to optimize their mental

health and in supporting them to integrate mind, body and spirit. She is trained in Solutioned

Focused therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and is a Pet

Loss and Grief Counseling Trained Professional. Kendra is a committed life-long learner, always

reading and studying to sharpen her skills and learn new ways of helping her clients. To that end,

she has spent years studying trauma informed treatment, mindfulness, Relational

Life Therapy, spiritual psychology, and is a practitioner of yoga, user of essential oils, and a

receiver of a variety of integrative and Eastern medicine practices, including energy

treatments, acupuncture and body work. Kendra received her Bachelor’s degree in

Sociology from Saint Anselm College and Masters degree in Social Work from Rhode Island

College. 

Sage Goodwin is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice in Providence.

Sage is one of two certified Emotionally Focused Therapists in Rhode Island. Sage also has a

background in IFS, Play Therapy, Children Centered Therapy, Filial Therapy and Drama

Therapy. Sage received her Bachelor’s in Psychology from Colorado University at Boulder and

her Master’s of Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies in San

Francisco with an emphasis in DT. She also has a trauma certification from Simmons College.
