Please join RIAMFT in welcoming legendary professor and family therapist Dr. Peter Maynard for the first installment of our Legacy Speaker Talks.
Dr. Peter Maynard was born on December 27, 1939, in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, and is the second oldest of five siblings. He earned a B.A. in Philosophy from Our Lady of Providence Seminary in 1961, followed by a diverse career in education and counseling. He began his teaching career at Warren High School in Rhode Island, where he taught Latin and English, and also served in the Army National Guard from 1963 to 1969, where he trained as a Combat Engineer.
Dr. Maynard furthered his education with a Master's in Education in Counseling from SUNY Buffalo in 1966, and went on to earn his Ph.D. from SUNY Buffalo in 1970. He served as an Assistant Professor at Teachers College, Columbia University, before joining the faculty at the University…
